Carbon Reduction

Moving towards net-zero carbon

Carbon Reduction aims

Baseline and Targets
Baseline year: 2022
Key sources of emissions: digital energy use (servers, devices), occasional travel, procurement.

Targets;

  • 2025: Maintain net carbon-neutral position for all websites; reduce travel by 50% vs 2019 benchmarks.
  • 2030: Cut operational emissions by 50% against the 2022 baseline, primarily through improved digitalefficiency and supply chain choices.
  • 2050: Achieve net-zero carbon across all operations, using recognised removals/offsets for any residual emissions.

Future Actions

  • Carbon Reduction Plan: Publish a formal plan by 2026 with interim targets.
  • Measurement & reporting: Use annual carbon accounting tools to monitor and report progress.
  • Supplier engagement: Prioritise partners using 100% renewable energy and review supply chainannually.
  • Low-carbon digital design: Further training in efficient coding, reducing page weight, and energy use.
  • Travel policy: Remote by default; use public transport for unavoidable travel.
  • External communication: Publish an annual sustainability statement on our website from FY2026.
  • Expand offsetting: Increase support for tree-planting and nature-based solutions through Nature’sCorridor as part of our pathway to net zero.
